Dongguk University WISE Campus held a ‘Gyeongju-type World Citizen Education Invitational Lecture’ at Dongguk University WISE Campus on the 10th.
The lecture that day was sponsored by Gyeongju City and invited former KBS New York correspondent and news director Lim Jang-won to give a lecture on the topic of ‘Economic Literacy that APEC Cultured Citizens Should Have.’ Approximately 100 people including Gyeongju citizens, Dongguk University WISE Campus faculty and staff, and current students participated.
Director Lim Jang-won said, “Due to media bias, sensationalism, and partisanship, news that is far from the truth is being repeatedly produced, and if media consumers accept it uncritically, it can be difficult to form a healthy and productive public forum.” He added, “We should increase literacy in economic news by comparing and verifying economic articles with provocative titles and content through various media.”
Professor Lee Young-chan of Dongguk University WISE Campus Global Convergence Research Institute said, “We will provide lectures on key topics related to global citizenship, such as cultural diversity, sustainable development goals, and international development cooperation, to Gyeongju citizens to help them acquire the qualities of responsible global citizens.”
Meanwhile, the Gyeongju-style global citizenship education is a series of premium liberal arts lectures planned by Dongguk University WISE Campus Global Convergence Research Institute as part of a government-academic cooperation project with Gyeongju City, and will be held every month.
